Top Twelve! Not live-blogging, because the internet access in our condo (spring break vacation with the parents) only has wired access, and not close to the TV. But I don’t think anybody reads live, anyway.
The theme is Diana Ross. That should work out for at least five or six of the girls. In fact, we have a very Motown vibe this year.
Brandon Rogers
song: You Can’t Hurry Love
Not bad. He sounded more comfortable than he has the last couple of weeks, but there were a few sort of shaky notes here and there. I didn’t even notice when he forgot the notes. Of course, I’m distracted by food.
Melinda Doolittle
song: Home
Wasn’t as “wow” as some of her earlier performances, but she’s always incredible. She puts her whole self into it, and it’s just great.
Chris Sligh
song: Endless Love
I liked it! Randy, what’s wrong with Coldplay? I freakin’ like Coldplay. Well, but then I’m not really familiar with the original (what with not being a Motown person). I do like him better with the glasses.
Gina Glocksen
song: Lovechild
She seemed a bit sharp throughout that. But I still like her. :) What, I have to be objective? Nah. I like the rock vibe she’s bringing. I agree with Simon.
Sanjaya Malakar
song: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
Well, it might’ve been better than some of his other performances, but that ain’t saying too much. I do like his voice, and his sweetness, but he just is not there as a performer.
Haley Scarnato
song: Missing You
Okay, that was actually really weird. The really quiet opening could’ve worked, but it only sort of did. Wow, Simon was complimentary! I didn’t like it as much as her earlier performances, but if it keeps her in the competition I’m happy.
Phil Stacey
song: I’m Gonna Make You Love Me?
I thought that was quite good. His high notes are great, and his lower notes were better than ever before. He’s still not my favorite, but he’s good.
LaKisha Jones
song: God Bless the Child
She started off outstanding, and she’s getting better every week. She was sending chills up and down my spine with that. The tone quality was absolutely amazing.
Blake Lewis
song: You Keep Me Hangin’ On
Aw, no beatboxing! Still a good performance. Not necessarily a great vocal performance, I don’t think, but he doesn’t always need one, because he’s such a great performer.
Stephanie Edwards
song: Love Hangover
She’s very good. Very good. A few shaky notes here and there, but overall, good song choice for her. (note: I haven’t heard the original, so whatever they’re talking about with the up-tempo part, I don’t know…I’m making a note to check it out.)
Chris Richardson
song: The Boss
I like him. He’s silly. Yeah, not his best, but he did a great job of connecting with the audience, and that sounded like a really hard vocal. But Simon does have a point–the vocal wasn’t that great without all the rest of him.
Jordin Sparks
song: If We Hold On Together
Beautiful. That was really nice. She’s definitely still right up there.
Best Tonight: LaKisha and Jordin
Going Home: Brandon, Sanjaya, or Haley
edit to fix dropped tag…wow, that was a lot of bold…
