I think this is three American Idol posts in a row. I hate when I do that. Oh well.

Kellie Pickler singing…heh, that particular portion of audience reaction looked pretty apathetic about Kellie. I always love the group sings. The lack of pressure is good for them.

Elims after the jump.

Guys first. Phil is safe. Nice. Chris Sligh is safe. Yay! Sundance is safe (he’s been the pick on Vote for the Worst, and I wonder how much effect that’s happening). Uh, oh, Jared is called down. But he’s safe. RYAN! You’re a jerk. Yay for more Jared!hotness. But no! Nick is going home! Wah. I was worried about that, but hoping against hope that someone besides me likes the standards. *pout*

Now girls. Stephanie is safe. Good. Gina is safe. Nice. Sabrina is safe. Yep. Melinda is safe. Perfect. Alaina is going home. And I’m not surprised. Being pretty only gets you so far. See, this is why you DON’T make the kicked-off people sing. It’s mean.

Wow, Kellie, not a fan of the new hair. Or the two inches of makeup. All told, it makes you like like you’re 40. Voice sounds pretty good, though.

So when is this new series “Drive” that Fox is promoting the hell out of actually going to start?

Back to the guys. Chris Richardson is safe. Awesome. Brandon is safe. Nice. I thought he’d be gone, though. Sanjaya or A.J., eh? Ooh, surprise. A.J. is going home, and Sanjaya is safe. Dude, you gotta step it up next week, though. A.J. was very gracious, though. He’s really sweet; I feel bad for him. You know, now I really hope Leslie doesn’t go home tonight. Hearing this song four times in one week might be more than I can handle.

And girls. LaKisha is safe. No surprise. Haley is safe. Nice. Antonella, Leslie, and Jordin in the center. Antonella is safe! Wow. I am shocked (again, VotefortheWorst may be skewing the vote enough to matter). Leslie is going home, and Jordin is safe. I’m glad Jordin is safe, but I liked Leslie enough to keep her around longer. AND NOW I HAVE TO HEAR FEELIN’ GOOD. AGAIN.

So I’m 1-4 tonight. Meh. I’m really, really sorry to lose Nick and a little sorry to lose Leslie, but I’m not overall THAT surprised that they were at least near the bottom. I like the support from the rest of the contestants. Hee! “Why did I decide to scat? America don’t care for jazz!” True enough, and a bit sad.

The reason Haley is not going home is because Simon hinted she was in danger last night — that almost ensured her safety. I didn’t think Leslie was among the best, but she has a unique and appealing voice, and I would have liked to have heard it for at least another week. Antonella should have been sent home last week.

I didn’t think that A.J. would make it past the semi-finals; but he’s definitely been superior to Sanjaya–especially last night!

I trust that both Sanjaya and Antonella will be sent home next week.

That’s a very good point. Reverse psychology and all. And re: Leslie, exactly. There are at least six or seven better voices, probably, but she was different, and I enjoy having something different on the show. I’m concerned that we’re going to get to the final six girls, and they’re all going to be Motown-inflected power belters, which is a very real possibility right now. Not saying they’re not great, but just…similar style.

Sanjaya and Antonella are likely to be the VotefortheWorst choices next week, and I think the site has enough supporters that it may actually be affecting the results. They certainly both deserved be sent home this week.

You’re right about how similar most of the girls are (though they’re very good!). I think that might work to Gina’s advantage if she can set herself apart from the rest. I liked her performance this week. I also expect that Blake will go far in the competition–not because he’s among the best singers, but because he’s a great performer and he’s unique.
