Yay, standards night! This is, like, my favorite night. Hope I’m not utterly disappointed. I’m also running late, because I, uh, forgot what time it was.

Blake Lewis
song: Mack the Knife

This has always been kind of a weird song for me, but he’s doing a nice job with it. Getting that cool jazzy/croony vibe. I think a white suit would’ve been even cooler. Yay Blake! I like-a me some Blake. Awesome.

Phil Stacey
song: Night and Day

NO! I love this song, and he just did a really boring, weird job of it. Going to wash my ears out with Sinatra, who he does not at all remind me of, Paula is on crack.

Melinda Doolittle
song: I’ve Got Rhythm

YAY GERSHWIN! Ooh, the rhythm change at the end was awesome! The whole thing, awesome. Melinda is made of awesome, especially on these classic songs. The judges are right, she’s is so totally in her own league, teaching the youngsters how it’s done.

Chris Richardson
song: Don’t Get Around Much Anymore

Duke Ellington, eh? Another great one. I love these songs so much! Sorry, I know I get a little gushy on Standards Night. That was great! He was comfortable, in the groove, and didn’t slip into the nasalness he tends toward. And his smile is so infectious. In a good way. ;)

Jordin Sparks
song: On a Clear Day You Can See Forever

I don’t really think of Streisand songs as being American Songbook songs, but okay. She did a really good job, as usual. She’s just impressing me more and more every week. Her own personal touches worked really well, too.

Gina Glocksen
song: Smile

Interesting choice of song…showed off her voice’s quality really well. Sort of like when Chris did “What a Wonderful World” last year. I liked it, but I’m sort of with Simon…it doesn’t really compete with either Melinda or Jordin.

Sanjaya Malakar
song: Cheek to Cheek

He’s doing Fred Astaire again? The hell? Last time that crashed and BURNED. Oh, wait, this is Sanjaya we’re talking about. Never mind. Oh, and he got the white suit before Blake could, apparently. Hee, at Simon calling it “incredible.” If trash talking Sanjaya makes people vote for him, maybe praising him will get him voted off? It’s a desperate effort, but at least he’s still trying. :p

Haley Scarnato
song: Ain’t Misbehavin’

Well, I mostly liked it. But I doubt it will be enough to save her. It is a good style for her, but her voice isn’t strong enough in this group of performers. :( I just really like her style of singing…more than the diva-belting style, to be honest. She would be this year’s Kat for me, if she only had Kat’s presence.

LaKisha Jones
song: Stormy Weather

This is a great song. Um, how did she manage to make “weather” and “together” not rhyme, though? Yeah, not too much of a fan of that. Usually I think she’s very good, but that didn’t get me at all. Probably because she’s not Judy Garland. I mean, no one is. But. Judges disagree with me. Ah well.

Best Tonight: Melinda, Chris, Blake.
Bottom Three: Phil, Haley, and Sanjaya or Gina, depending on Sanjaya’s fanbase.

I look forward to reading your Idol blog almost as much as watching the show. I did not care for Lakisha’s performance tonight either. I like the sweet quality in Haley’s voice, too. And yes, the standards night is the best night for me, too. So, have you been voting? And who might be getting your votes, if you are?

I laughed out loud when Simon commented on Sanjaya by saying “incredible”! He is funny and way to clever and right on to be in the same company as Quiggles and Squiggles!

Aw, thanks! It’s been a little rushed lately, because I’ve been chatting with Becky during the show, too. ;) I have been voting, yes. Mostly for Haley, because I know she’s in danger all the time. Once she leaves, my quartet of favorites is Blake/Chris/Melinda/Jordin. In no particular order. How about you?

I loved when Simon said that to Sanjaya! “Let’s try a different strategy…” They’re not even trying to judge his performances anymore.

We are not voting yet, but all the kids love Blake. I like him the best, too.
