$70 million, eh? Nice. Although, I did think Newscorp’s $5 million was a bit low…I mean, that’s like 1/20th of what they spend on a single film production. Anyhoo.

Bon Jovi? Really? A whole show devoted to Bon Jovi songs? Okay. They should let me program this thing.

Phil Stacey
song: Blaze of Glory

Phil’s going first! This is good for those of us who, you know, want him kicked off. First place is the death slot. He’s up in the audience again? That’s not tended to be a great idea. He’s trying to be Daughtry. And he, you know, isn’t. No matter what Bon Jovi says, his voice is not this big. Then again, remember how biased I am on this. Can Randy make it through a show without name-dropping? Nah, didn’t think so.

By the way, everyone should go watch the recaps/commentary of the show at IdolCritic.com. Really funny, and usually spot on. Last week, she pointed out the absurdity of Paula’s pleased surprise at Phil’s sounding good throughout the whole song. As if what we’re going for with American Idol was someone who could once in a while sing a song without sounding like crap. Hee.

Jordin Sparks
song: Livin’ on a Prayer

Ooh, difficult to sing…don’t frell up, Jordin! But she’s so great, I’m sure she’ll be fine. Wow, she looks kinda scary. Ooh, nice, she’s got the boys with the guitars up there. We love boys with guitars. There was a phrase or two that seemed a little shaky, but overall, she worked it out. Interesting song choice, though…not really my favorite for her, but she’s still my fave. This is sort of like when Kat had to sing Elvis songs last year.

LaKisha Jones
song: This Ain’t a Love Song

Sounds like LaKisha picked a good song for herself. Mmm. But she’s my second-least favorite right now. This is not working out for me. And yeah, that was really good, but that’s a bit much, Simon. Damn, this screws up my plan for Phil and LaKisha to go home tomorrow. Wow, look at me. I’m so warped that I’m hoping certain people do bad so they get kicked off. I’m going off the deep end. I apologize, LaKisha. I don’t dislike you, I just…like you less than Jordin, Blake, Melinda, and Chris.

Blake Lewis
song: You Give Love a Bad Name

Uh-oh. Changing the arrangement doesn’t always work for Blake. But this one has high possibility for beat-boxing, and that could save him, since he hasn’t done it for a long time. YAY BEATBOXING!! Dude, I am totally loving this. Whether the judges will or not, who knows. But I do. It’s totally awesome. Let me repeat that. THAT WAS TOTALLY AWESOME. YAY! I CAN’T STOP SCREAMING!!

Chris Richardson
song: Wanted Dead or Alive

Uh-oh, Daughtry did this last year, and as much as I enjoy Chris, he doesn’t have Daughtry’s vocal power. I do like the tone he’s got going on, though. Very different from Chris D., but still quite good. He needs to quit using the mic stand EXACTLY like Daughtry did, though. (This is difficult to write, because they’re both Chrises…). And he didn’t go nasally at all. All in all, a solid performance, I thought. Hopefully his placement late in the show will aid him against Phil.

Melinda Doolittle
song: Have a Nice Day

Oh, come on, Melinda, you’re good at everything. She’s so cute. How come she only gets one guitar guy and Jordin got two? :p Wonderful, of course. Heh…her face at the end was awesome.

Best Tonight – BLAKE, Melinda, and…probably LaKisha, although I liked Chris better. What the hell. Chris.
Going Home – Hopefully PHIL, and…LaKisha. Because the other options would make me less happy. But, probably Chris. Sigh.

Ugh. Bon Jovi makes me want to apologize to my parents for what they had to hear second-hand while I was growing up. At least they haven’t done a Quiet Riot theme…

I watched more tonight than I normally get the chance to. I think Jordan or Chris should go after tonight. My third choice for an exit is Phil. I LOVED Melinda. I thought Lakeisha did a really good job, and I thought Blake’s original rendition of You Give Love a Bad Name was pretty cool. Hey, this was Bon Jovi night, and for me that means nostalgia. So I had more of an opinion that I might otherwise.

Obviously, we wrote these comments independently of one another and in separate rooms. Jennifer didn’t know I had written because the site didn’t refresh until she posted.

Gotta disagree–I loved Phil tonight, and I hope Chris and Lakisha are gone
tomorrow! But I agree with you in that I hope Jordin wins. Melinda just is in another league, she’s so amazing.

Mark and Jennifer – I wondered if you two were fighting over the computer or something to post so close together. What is Quiet Riot? Some band I’m too young to know about? :p Jenn, Jordin? Tonight was probably her worst performance yet, but I think it pales in significance compared with her many outstanding ones… I suspect that Chris will go tomorrow, too. I like him, but he hasn’t upped his game to match some of the other contestants.

Nicole – Well, I am getting so biased against Phil that I hardly hear him singing anymore. Bad I know, but there it is. He did do a good job on the country night, though, for sure. Tonight, though…just felt weak to me, and I mostly agreed with Simon. I’d be happy with either Jordin or Melinda winning–I lean toward Jordin only because I think Melinda’s career will be just fine whether or not she wins, and Jordin, being inexperienced, could probably use the boost.

    Becky – BLAKE!!!

I totally agree with what Randy said (or was it Paula). It was the most creative effort (by Blake) that the show has ever had. It was a real surprise how well it worked. Blake in the final 3 just for having the guts to do this.
