And I need to talk about it. But after the jump, because it’s going to be spoilery for tonight’s premiere. Ooh, but first, I just want to point out that the Ugly Betty premiere was very close to perfection, and if you’re not watching it, you should be. Because it’s awesome, and I’m so glad that it’s awesome, because I need a show to love unconditionally while I’m ranting about Grey’s. (Actually, I also love The Office unconditionally, but I haven’t watched its premiere yet, because I was watching Grey’s.)

Okay, the first fifty minutes or so of the premiere I thought were really good. They were acknowledging the issues from last year (Burke leaving Cristina, Izzie and George, Callie making chief resident, George failing the exam, etc.), but they seemed to be moving on as well, into their new roles as attendings. Except George, who thankfully decided to come back even though he had to repeat his intern year. I really like Meredith’s sister Lexie (except her timing isn’t always great…but I choose to blame the writers for that, because hey, I’m already down on them for trying to ruin my show), and I’m hoping they do some nice things with that subplot; I liked her support for George and her enthusiasm. Bailey is awesome, as usual. The humor of the show seemed to be back, characters were back acting like normal, and I was pleased and heartened and hopeful. And then. AND THEN. Suddenly in the last ten minutes, Meredith is back with Derek (I mean, they say they’re breaking up, but they’re CLEARLY not), in what is a completely destructive relationship for both of them, she’s continuing to ignore her sister, and George is declaring love for Izzie. Which would’ve been great, oh, I don’t know, LIKE A YEAR AGO, but now…he’s married. I don’t think he ever should’ve married Callie, but he did, and while I don’t like Callie nearly as much as I like Izzie, he and Izzie together have already hurt her a great deal, plus she’s going through so much trying to be a good chief resident, and I feel sorry for her. Now, maybe it will be better to just have it over and done with, so they don’t go on hurting her, but still. BUT STILL. And beyond my issues with these plot points, the ultimate problem is that is the SAME ANGST that dragged the show down the second half of last season. I know the show needs angst, but can we have some new angst? Somehow? I mean, come on. We have eleven or twelve new interns, some of which could easily become angsty. Yet, I still love Izzie, and George, and Bailey, and Cristina, and yes, Meredith. Not so much Derek, but then, I never have really liked him. So I can’t stop just stop watching. They’re my people. And there was enough good in the episode to give me hope for the future, but man, am I mad at Meredith right now.

That’s all.
