{"id":7587,"date":"2010-10-21T18:18:46","date_gmt":"2010-10-22T01:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.the-frame.com\/?p=7587"},"modified":"2011-03-15T00:00:29","modified_gmt":"2011-03-15T07:00:29","slug":"charlie-chaplin-in-one-a-m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.the-frame.com\/blog\/2010\/10\/charlie-chaplin-in-one-a-m\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlie Chaplin in One A.M."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.the-frame.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/oneam1.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"oneam1\" width=\"550\" height=\"436\" class=\"centered\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"firstletter\">T<\/span>he Cinefamily rep cinema has been doing a Chaplin series for the past couple of months (all the features and a bunch of silent shorts), and they capped it off last night with <em>Modern Times<\/em> &#8211; but first they played probably my all-time favorite Chaplin short, <em>One A.M.<\/em> Chaplin is closely associated with the Little Tramp character he played in pretty much all of his features from <em>The Kid<\/em> through <em>The Great Dictator<\/em>, but he also had another character in his shorts &#8211; a more dapper man-about-town wearing a suit that actually fit. That&#8217;s who he plays in <em>One A.M.<\/em>, which is a one-character piece of Charlie, very drunk from a night out, trying to get into up to bed. It&#8217;s a fantastic exploration of how much physical comedy you can get out of essentially one person and two rooms.
