Stuff I Designed

Hey, this is the site you're on! I bet you guessed that already. I designed and coded this site from scratch in December of 2008. This is the first site I coded from ground up, both html and css, without starting from a WordPress theme (or two, or three) for code snippets. That was largely my goal, to really test myself on not only snagging code and repurposing it, but actually understanding how to write it. My other goal, which is sort of related, was to keep it clean and simple, yet incorporate many aspects of my online life, from writing to video to social media. Oh, and to make it a whole site with an embedded blog rather than just a blog. The front page incorporates WordPress tempate code, javascript for pulling the recent Tumblr posts, a styled Flickr widget, and a styled FriendFeed widget.

The previous design for my blog lasted only a few months, from August through December 2008. I'm proud of how much design work I did on it; I started with code from existing WordPress themes for the layout, but I did all the graphics and modded the code more heavily than I ever had before. Still, I was never completely happy with some of the elements, especially the colors, which I could never get to match quite the way I wanted. I opted to go simpler in my redesign, and save the fancy colors and graphics for another time. This was version four of my WordPress blog, but I'm not including the others, since they were really basic mod jobs rather than significant designs or coding projects.

Stuff I Coded

I currently work for an affiliate network, and these are a couple of the landing pages for products we promote. We have an in-house creative department, and they did the designs. I only did the html/css for them, but I jumped at the opportunity to flex those muscles, since honestly, I'm better at coding than designing. The order form was mostly done by someone else for another page, I just copied and styled it.
